Release to Receive

The other day I stumbled upon a movie titled “And so it goes” starring actors Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. In this movie Michael Douglas plays a self-absorbed, grieving, widowed realtor, unable to sell his $8.6 million dollar listing. Oren (Michael Douglas) Little’s bitterness and obnoxiousness stemmed from grief he’d never released from his wife’s passing two years prior. To his surprise, his drug addicted son shows up on his doorstep needing him to care for his 10yr old granddaughter (that he’d never met) while he goes off to prison for 9months. As Oren cares for his long-lost granddaughter his sense of love and compassion returns and his $8.6 million dollar listing suddenly has a buyer.
Grief and bitterness are two forms of emotions that consume and hinder almost half the nation. Hebrews 12:15 commands us to “Watch out that no bitter root of unbelief rises up among you, for whenever it springs up, many are corrupted by its poison.” Bitterness comes when we nurse grudges and hurt from the past. Bitterness brings with it jealousy, dissension, and immorality.
What I love about this movie is it shows the revelation of when the character took “his eye” off his sorrow and began to embrace and extend love, everything began to turn “suddenly.” 1Corinthians 13:13 says “But the greatest of these is love.” Love is the greatest of all human qualities; and it is an attribute of GOD himself.
May I encourage you? If, you are currently allowing bitterness take resident, release it so you may receive. Let go of the negative and grab hold of your promise. You have been praying, asking GOD to do a new thing, yet you refuse to do a new thing. When you decide to let go of the past, GOD is going to move on your behalf. Release to receive in JESUS name AMEN.
God Bless
